RE: Horseshoe Lake Project, Steve Hanson

At our association meeting of August 30, 2008, a long (usually friendly) discussion was held regarding Steve Hanson's proposed development on and near Horseshoe Lake. A motion was passed that we write supporting the one dwelling per divided parcel section of the SHORELAND Zoning Ordinance, which we have done. The content of this letter is also directed by a motion passed by unanimous vote at that meeting.

The Horseshoe Lake Improvement Association hereby requests a public neighborhood meeting with our members and neighbors prior to the zoning committee meeting, which we understand is slated for October 3. We would like this meeting to include Steve, your office representative(s), township representatives, as many of our members as we can gather, and chaired by a strong, independent chair. Although we realize this is an unusual request and imposition, we respectfully ask if the meeting might be held on a weekend. Many of our concerned members are "weekend residents."

This request came out of long discussion where the feeling was that we simply do not have enough information. This is a new and important issue not only for Polk County but for all of Wisconsin and Minnesota. I am enclosing a copy of an article from the Minneapolis Star Tribune of September 1, 2008, (link) which concerns a similar project in Emily, Minnesota.

Please help us wrestle with this issue together.

Respectfully,
Sandra (Sam) Lindquist, Secretary
